Jesus is the Subject.
The Church of God movement appeared in the 1880s in the midst of the broader Wesleyan-holiness movement in the United States. Early leaders of the Church of God hoped to restore a more Bible-based understanding and practice of what it means to be followers of Christ, working together to love God and people.
Today, the Church of God is an international family of Jesus people collectively building a Jesus-centered, biblically grounded Movement that brings the kingdom to life on earth as it is in heaven.
The love of Jesus, taught as the Great Commandments in the Bible, is but one of several core convictions that drive everything we do.
What We Believe
The only way to Heaven is through Jesus.
"Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."" John 14:6
Baptism symbolizes dying to sin and being reborn as a new person through Jesus.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"
2 Corinthians 5:17
Jesus is coming back and everyone will know it.
"For the Lord himself will come down from Heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel & with the trumpet call of God, & the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive & are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so, we will be with the Lord forever." 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
Though every person is a vital part of the local body, we do not believe church membership is supported in the Scriptures. Attending our services at Granby First Church of God, living a life that brings glory to God, and accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior, makes a person a member of our church. No application required, no test to take, and no confirmation vote needed.
"And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." Acts 2:47
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:34-35
There is only one God and He created everything.
"For this is what the Lord says--He who created the heavens, He is God; He who fashioned and made the earth, He founded it; He did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited--He says: "I am the Lord, and there is no other."" Isaiah 45:18
Church Membership
Everyone has sinned and sin leads to hell.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23
"Jesus said, 'If you love me, obey my commandments.'" John 14:15
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength; and love your neighbor as yourself." Mark 12:30-31
Our Pastors
We believe that choosing the right pastor is pivotal to not only to the spiritual growth of our members, but for the betterment of the community we live in as well. Pastors serve as shepherds that guide us through the challenges and triumphs of life. In doing so, pastors should lead by example, living lives of faithfulness and integrity, and relying solely on God for strength, wisdom, and love. The leadership displayed by Pastor Mark and Pastor Wes motivates our church family to draw closer to the Lord, as well as fosters a deep sense of belonging and purpose among our members.

Pastor
Youth Pastor
"Hey! I am Pastor Mark Turner. That title still amazes me. I am amazed by what God has done in my life. I was born in Missouri and lived most of my life right here in Granby and I graduated from East Newton High School (Granby) in 1985. I joined the United States Marine Corps and ended up in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm. I have been married since 1994 to Cheryl and we have 2 children and 3 grandchildren.
I was raised in church, right here at Granby First Church of God. I was called to the ministry at the age of 52 in 2020 and became pastor in December of that same year at this church. I am not a typical pastor, but I do believe in preaching the truth. I do not have an elaborate pedigree but I do have the Lord and His “strength is made perfect in my weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)"
Hello, my name is Wes Smith. I am happily married to my wife Rosa Smith. Together we have 8 children: 5 boys and 3 girls ranging from 20 years old to 2 years old. I came to know the Lord in 2011 at the age of 27. After a few years of walking with the Lord I started teaching a children’s class in Sunday school. A little over 2 years ago I felt the call to become a youth leader. I deeply enjoy serving others and teaching them about the love of God. Seeing the things that these kids go through drives me to help them find the Lord in their daily lives and to speak truth over them.
I have a passion for discipleship, mentoring, and growing our youth and overall church. My desire is that all of us will walk intimately with the Lord and spread His gospel to the world. I work diligently to only teach from the Word of God and to push my students to a deeper truth. I love to challenge them to wrestle with the Word and grow in their knowledge and love for God. I am a big kid at heart and love to goof around and make learning fun. I feel so blessed to be able to experience life with these kids & help them find God in the middle of it.
